Palenque LSNA Fellowship Program
The Palenque Fellowship is an immersive leadership and professional development program with a goal to uplift new civic leaders, build community connection, and provide deeper insights into our QLP community-based planning and internal committee work. We have chosen 20 Fellows – emerging community leaders across a range of ages, identities, and professions.
Through the Fellowship, Fellows will:
Strengthen Palenque LSNA’s committee work and deepen the connections between our MAC members and community stakeholders.
Fellows will learn organizing and leadership skills within the context of the Palenque Values
Develop and implement strategies to close the life expectancy gap through an equitable approach (HCEZ)
Explore and learn about their ancestral history through a decolonial lens.
As part of their participation, Fellows will receive leadership and professional development training; conduct community-wide assessments that will guide planning and policy development; and sharpen communication, time-management, and interpersonal skills. All Fellows receive a $2,000 stipend.
Palenque Fellowship Statement of Respect
All over Latin America free villages were established by Africans escaping the cruelty of slavery. Many joined up with indigenous communities and fled far away into the most remote areas where they learned/unlearned collective ways of governance, conflict resolution, safety, food systems, cultural celebrations, spirituality, family structures, rest, and kinship networks. These spaces were known as Palenques. We are an organization that seeks to respect black, brown, indigenous people and accept the gender identities of everyone.
The people in our Palenque:
Are committed to being in alliance with the Black community and push to unlearn anti-black sentiment within ourselves and our communities
Create safe spaces so everyone can have the freedom to show up as their whole authentic selves because we respect people of all gender expressions and all abilities
Recognize we are not in this alone, we bring others with us
Challenge and disrupt when we see harm being done to others, and take accountability when our actions may have caused harm to others
