Access Living honors LSNA as the Community Partner of the Year
Access Living, a powerful disability justice organization honored LSNA as the Community Partner of the Year for our work with students with disabilities at Schurz HS through our Sustainable Community Schools grant. We are striving to make leadership development, cultural projects and social justice work accessible to all. We are so grateful to accept this award! Executive Director, Juliet De Jesus Alejandre said, “This is by far one of the best honors I have experienced in my professional career. Today Access Living, the premier disability justice organization in Chicago, has recognized LSNA’s work at Carl Schurz High School for ensuring that students with disabilities have the same opportunities to LEAD and participate in programs and projects. My Mateo and Santi have been keeping me accountable, “mami, how many people with disabilities work with you at LSNA?” Because of them, I understand that our movement and social justice spaces must always include disability justice. I wish we didn’t need to be rewarded for allowing humans to do human things but until we make sure folks of all abilities have access, I am grateful to be an ally.”
